Guy Levis Grant Awardee John A. Kuykendall is a doctoral candidate at Indiana University – Bloomington in Higher Education Administration. Kuykendall received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in Biology Education where he was initiated into the Gamma Sigma Chapter. He received his Master’s degree from Christian Brothers University ( Memphis, TN) in Educational Leadership.

He currently works for the Center of Postsecondary Research at Indiana University where he is a project associate for the College Students Experiences Questionnaire (CSEQ) the College Student Expectations Questionnaire (CSXQ) and the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). His primary responsibility is to be a liaison between colleges and universities with the administration of the surveys on their campuses. In addition, he also coordinates institutional report cards and data analysis. His research interest includes postsecondary access and equity, multicultural education, and student persistence within academic major programs. His dissertation will be entitled: What difference does a college major make? A Logistical Analysis on the Impact of Academic Majors on Student Persistence and is scheduled for completion in December. Kuykendall holds various professional memberships with American Education Research Association (AERA), Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), and the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). He has presented at these various conferences on the issues of student development, access and equity and college choice. He has co-authored publications on the issues of diversity and social justice in education.

He is currently a member of the Indianapolis Alumni Chapter and co-advisor to the Alpha Chapter. John is married to Nicole Young and they are the proud parents of twin children, Jackson and Neala.
