Remembering a Departed Brother

Melvin L. Jackson, MD, Philadelphia Alumni Chapter

Philadelphia, PA, September 11, 2012 – It is with great sadness that members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. mourn the loss of a stalwart brother who was known and loved by brothers across Kappadom.

Brother Melvin L. Jackson, MD, was initiated into the Philadelphia Alumni in 1968. He received a B. S. in chemistry from Morgan State University; and earned a M.D. degree from Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, PA.

Brother Jackson was the 64th Elder Watson Diggs Awardee in the class of 1999, and Brothers remember him as he traveled to events across the country, always carrying his stethoscope in his coat pocket ready to respond to the medical needs of brothers and others. This achieving brother rendered these services Pro Bono, out of the goodness of his heart.  Because of his availability and due diligence, lives were saved and we are eternally grateful.

Grand Polemarch William "Randy” Bates, Jr., Esq. urges brothers to "keep the family of Brother Jackson, including his wife, Jacqueline and children, Brother Melvin L. Jackson II, and daughter, Melanie Lynn, MD, in your prayers. He admonishes us to remember what our personal responsibilities are to the families of our brothers who have moved to that Celestial Chapter in the sky.”

The Grand Polemarch said; "the life of Brother Jackson demonstrates why our Founders not only wanted corporate achievements for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, but achievement by members across America. It is this service that makes a difference in the lives of people in our communities we have been serving for more than a century.”

"There are other physicians in our fraternity, who will assume the great role that Brother Jackson played in his tremendous philanthropic work in the area of health,” said Bates, "let us welcome them as they fill this void that is left by Brother Jackson’s departure.”
