|Announcement: New Journal Editor|
GRAND POLEMARCH APPOINTS EDITOR OF THE KAPPA JOURNAL
On November 3, 2014 Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity lost one of its most beloved members when Journal Editor Jonathan Hicks transitioned to Chapter Invisible. Brother Hicks was a renowned journalist, civic leader, and a musician that filled our hearts each time we had the pleasure to hear him sing.
Brother Hicks traveled throughout Kappaland, serving as an ambassador of goodwill for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Brothers over the last three decades listened to Brother Hicks with awe, as he sang in a manner that only he could sing. We listened intently to him when he served as keynote speaker across the land.
At the 80th Grand Chapter Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, it was my honor to appoint Brother Hicks to the position of Editor of the Kappa Journal. During this Grand Chapter Meeting Brother Hicks received the coveted Elder Watson Diggs Award. In the next three years and three months, the Journal has taken on a new look and editorial quality equal to any similar publication in the world. During this period, Brother Hicks worked through his illness, leading the Journal team to a height not heretofore reached in the history of the Journal. It is now our time once again, to cherish the memories of Brother Hicks and the seven other permanent editors of the Journal. They now rest from their labors and their works do follow them. Farewell Brother Hicks, we promise that your journalistic legacy will live on.
It becomes my duty to appoint a successor to Brother Jonathan P. Hicks. It is an easy task for me to name a successor, because Brother Hicks surrounded himself with brothers who could produce our great Journal. In order that the winter issue of the Journal would proceed as Brother Hicks has scheduled I have appointed Brother Thomas Cunningham IV, Managing Editor of the Journal effective Thursday, November 6, 2014, to succeed Brother Hicks as Journal Editor.
Brother Cunningham is a charter member of the San Fernando-Santa Clarita (CA) Alumni Chapter. He was initiated at the Florida A&M University chapter, the Alpha Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., March 15, 1989. I now challenge all of us to support the Journal staff as they carry on the great legacy that they have been a part of. I am encouraged by their performances and know that our Journal will continue to thrive under the leadership of Brother Cunningham.
