Brother William "Randy" Bates, Esq., serves as the Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In furtherance of the theme: "100 Years and Building: The Journey Continues," Grand Polemarch Bates has led the 32nd Administration in enhancing the undergraduate initiatives of the fraternity, through the establishment and implementation of the "Diamonds in the Rough" program with the "Rough Scholarship" database; "restructuring of Kappa Kamp by moving it to Paul Quinn College, where participants can gain actual exposure to college life as a motivator to want to obtain higher education; continuing the partnerships with the Piney Woods School by providing ongoing financial support through the donations of brothers; upgrading the "Undergraduate Leadership Institute (ULI) by increasing the numbers of participants to 100 undergraduates and obtaining increased financial support; expanding the outreach of Guide Right using a wide range of social media tools; sponsored undergraduate members' training excursion to China; Implemented New CRWLC Programs; established the National Guide Right Committee Facebook page (currently has 1,886 followers); featuring high achieving undergraduates and alumni in the Kappa Journal, giving members broader vocational and social networking opportunities.
In addition, Brother Bates has led the 32nd Administration in the upgrading of the fraternity's website platform, enabling greater communications capabilities and increased branding of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; the Healthy Kappa/Healthy Communities program held for the first time, health screenings at all 12 Province Councils; completed Province Polemarch's Manual; new code of conduct was codified under one manual; opened centralized online Kappa Store; improved and modernized IHQ financial systems; reduced printing and postage costs; improved Fraternity-Wide communications; established partnerships with Naviance, the online college, career and scholarship planner designed to assist students in better preparation and access to resources for college and careers; the College Board as part of their Young Men of Color Initiative; the National Association of College Admissions Counseling; the HARP YEAS (You Earned A Say) Program; and the NAACP Voter Registration program.
Professionally, Brother Bates is a law partner with Bates & Coleman, PC. Brother Bates also served 21 years on the Board of Trustees of the Lone Star College System, the largest institution of higher education in the Houston, Texas area. While on the Board of Trustees Brother Bates was elected chairman in 1996, 1998, 2008, & 2010, a period when the College system received 9 separate credit upgrades from Standard & Poor's and Moody's credit rating agencies.
