|Grand Polemarch's New Year Greeting|
As we enter the 105th year of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. let me wish each of you and your families a Happy and Prosperous New Year. The 33rd administration will begin the calendar year 2016 eager to continue the business of our great fraternity recognizing that you have elected us to make Kappa better than it has ever been before. We accepted the challenge in New Orleans in August 2015, and we still have the momentum we had after a successful 82nd Grand Chapter meeting in the Bayou.
We are a few days away from our 11th Founders' Day Celebration in the City of Mobile, Alabama, the home of the first Mardi Gras. I have been assured by Brother Bertram Orum, Polemarch of the Southern Province that the brothers in Mobile have scheduled activities that will make us think we're at a mini-conclave. I encourage you to join us as we pay homage to our Founders and reflect on the many blessings God has bestowed on us over these 105 years.
As we celebrate the New Year teach your children and those you mentor, that civilizations around the world have been celebrating the start of each New Year for at least four millennia. Today, most New Year's festivities begin on December 31 (New Year's Eve), the last day of the Gregorian calendar, and continue into the early hours of January 1 (New Year's Day). Common traditions include attending parties, eating special New Year's foods, making resolutions for the New Year and watching fireworks displays.
However you choose to celebrate the New Year, remember that all that we are and hope to be comes from God, and we should be forever grateful for His blessings and His amazing grace.
From our home to yours, we wish you God's favor in 2016. "But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24:15
