Thanksgiving Day Message From The Grand Polemarch

My Dear Brothers:

Forty-eight years before Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was founded, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving Day as a national holiday. The first Thanksgiving was a time to reflect and pause for a moment of gratitude for the harvest of the previous year. Today, we pause and are grateful for African Americans in the United States whose achievements have transcended a history of slavery and servitude, to rise and become leaders in the development of our country. It is no wonder that our Founders embraced the heritage of our ancestors, giving thanks to them for their courage in the face of adversity.

Although Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is a nonsectarian organization, we know that we were founded on Christian principles. Many of our members celebrate Thanksgiving Day, giving honor to God for enabling us as a people to thrive under the most unfavorable circumstances. As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day this year, let us give thanks to God for the wisdom He gave our Founders, and our brothers who have carried the torch for "Dear ole Kappa" for 104 years.

Many of us are familiar with a song written by the late Andrae Crouch entitled "My Tribute". The following paraphrased lyrics should have great meaning to all who honor God on Thanksgiving Day. May you and your family be blessed and prosper in all things.

How can we say thanks for the things God has done for us?
Things so undeserved yet He gave to prove His love for us
The voices of a million angels could not express our gratitude;
All that we are, and ever hope to be we owe it all to thee.
To God be the glory, to God be the glory
To God be the glory for the things He has done
With His blood He has saved us; with His power He has raised us
To God be the glory for the things He has done
Just let us live our lives and let it be pleasing Lord to thee;
And if we gain any praise, let it go to Calvary.
With his blood He has saved us; with His power He has raised us;
To God be the glory for the things he has done

Yours in the Bond,
