|The Grand Polemarch's Father's Day Message 2016|
On Sunday, June 19, 2016 we will celebrate Father’s Day. It’s a day when we honor our fathers, grandfathers, surrogate fathers and mentors. We honor them for the contributions they have made to our nurturing and our achievements. This special day is also a day when many of us are honored because of the love our children, wives, relatives, friends and those we have mentored, have for us.
This year is particularly special for those of us who mourn for the fathers who lost loved ones in the recent tragedy in Orlando, Florida, as well as those who lost children in the wars across the world. This is a time to be grateful for the blessings we have in knowing that our fathers and those who have been our father figures have contributed in some way to our growth and development as Kappa men.
Father’s Day is a time for reflection as well as introspection, because fathers play a major role in the development of strong families and strong communities. Fathers are in the unique position of being the keystone to the family unit, and have a responsibility to carry their children and the children they mentor, through this difficult labyrinth we call life.
On this day, let us pray for fathers who for one reason or another are estranged from their children, either because of incarceration, separation in the military or domestic reasons. Let us pray that God will cause them to reunite with their children and fulfill the role that He has ordained for them.
I wish for Kappas all over the world, a happy Father’s Day, and may you and your families continue to thrive under the arc of safety that is ours to enjoy as we embrace the sacred tenets of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
